You may have seen GoBig / Orlando Shirts around town and featured on various local blogs. We were first introduced to this locally-owned company via Orlando site Bungalower and love their appreciation of all things Orlando. We especially love them knowing that it’s a family-owned business, run by mom Sue and her two daughters, Hannah & Liv. Please read about what this company is doing to help keep Orlando one of the coolest places to live!
Q: How did you originally get your start, and when did the you & your daughters start working together?
[Sue:] We started out as an advertising agency 13 years ago and have been around ever since. Hannah & Liv have always worked at my business in some form, even as kids they helped out! We started getting into printing back in 2014. We were outsourcing printing for our clients to other companies and we were getting mixed results. We noticed that was an area that we could expand to because of our client base was asking for these things. Thankfully our clients were willing to work with us and we have been printing ever since!
Q: What t-shirt designs are the most popular, and how do you keep your selections fresh and modern? Is there any one design that you see people wearing on the streets most often?
[Liv:] Our most popular designs have been our original designs like "Thrils on Mills" "OK But First Wallys", and the College Park designs. The Love Orlando Orange created by Ashley & Rhett Withy has been our most popular collaboration to date. We usually see people wearing our Pride designs or one of our original designs. We like to create designs that embody Orlando.
Q: What are the challenges of running a family business, and how do you separate work from your personal lives? What is the funnest part about working together as a family?
[Hannah:] Everything turns into work! You don't really separate work from your personal lives. It always come up, no matter what! We laugh a lot which is great! You always know what makes your family members laugh. We also really enjoy coming up with new ideas and products. We have some pretty wacky brainstorming sessions.
Q: What do you love the most about Orlando? Do you have a favorite neighborhood, favorite place to eat or go for fun?
[Sue:] I currently live in Winter Park and really love that side of town! A lot of new stuff is getting built in Winter Park which is exciting. I love the new Whole Foods and Nordstrom Rack. They are doing a great job re-doing the Kmart plaza [on 17-92 near Lee Rd] as well. Hillstones is still one of my all-time favorites on that side of town.
[Hannah:] I love all of the water that is in and around Orlando. Between the lakes and beach there is always something fun to do on the weekends. I recently moved Downtown and it has been really nice to be so close to so many good restaurants in Thornton Park. Shari sushi is one of my favorites right now, you really can't beat their happy hour!
[Liv:] I like the Mills area a lot. I spend a lot of time at the venues going to shows. I love The Strand, Black Rooster Taqueria, and Wills Pub. I also really like The Gallery at Avalon downtown- always good art exhibits or performance arts pieces.
Q: If you had a day and unlimited budget, what would you do for fun in Orlando or the surrounding area?
[Hannah:] We would most likely head over to the outlets and splurge. We have some great shopping and deals here in Orlando. Maybe hit the Ritz for a spa day? None of us has ever done that. Apparently they have a beautiful pool as well? None of us have ever been on the Orlando Eye either. Maybe a day as a tourist would be a lot of fun!
