Cabana Bay: Favorite Orlando Staycation
Favorite Staycay Spotlight: Cabana Bay at Universal
This past Labor Day, the Loomie family was able to get away to local spot Cabana Bay at Universal Studios Resorts Florida in our hometown of Orlando. We love this resort for so many reasons. Read on to find out why!
Rooms
For this stay, we booked a Family Suite in the Starlight building, which is considered a "Courtyard" room. Family Suites are unique in that they can sleep up to 6 people with 2 queen beds & a pull-out sofa. We loved how these suites feature an awesome sliding privacy partition- we were able to put Leo5 to bed, then slide the privacy partition closed. This way, we could stay up later, have a cocktail, & watch a little TV before retiring for the night.
Another great feature is that the bathroom is compartmentalized with a separate WC, separate bath/shower, and separate sink area- this allows 3 people to get ready at the same time. Each suite also has a kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a sink. We love all these features that are so important for traveling families!
Food & BeveragE
Cabana Bay has excellent dining facilities, including an on-site Starbucks, multiple poolside dining options, and a large cafeteria with numerous food choices. In the cafeteria, portions are large, the prices aren't too steep, and the food quality is great. Even vegetarians & gluten-free diners can find options here. Insider tip: order a kids meal if you can- it's cheaper but still plenty of food!
Grounds
There is a large resort pool with kids splash pad and water slide on one side of the resort, with a smaller pool and lazy river on another side. Usually, if one side is busy, the other side won't be. Make sure to bring your own float if using the lazy river to save money.
With all these fun options, it's hard to justify spending money on a visit to a water park while you are here! During the day, the resort has DJs playing festive music and hosting different games and contests at the pools. In the evenings, you can watch a movie on the lawn.
For entertainment, the resort also has an arcade and bowling alley. There is plenty to do in case it rains (which can definitely happen here in Orlando!).
Pricing
The resort frequently runs Florida resident specials. Right now, and extending through the winter, room rates are discounted 38% for Florida residents:
