Located near Ft Myers, this collection of 26 pyramid-shaped "chalets" is home to a thermal pool and very unique accommodations! Opened in 2002 by a charming Austrian couple, the Pyramids are both child- and pet-friendly and offer apartment-style lodging. The chalets are allergy friendly, with either 2 Queen beds OR 1 Queen and 2 Twin beds, a full kitchen including dishwasher, washer, dryer and BBQ on the patio. Rates run from $97/day up to $158/day depending on size of pyramid and time of year (add a cleaning fee plus 11% tax).
This replica of the Thomas Pointe Lighthouse on Chesapeake Bay offers a non-traditional beachfront experience. Located on Florida's northeast coast on Amelia Island, Katie's Light has 3 bedrooms (2 queens, 1 set of bunkbeds) and is an ideal family or romantic getaway. A gorgeous wrap-around deck offers a 360 degree view and extends over the beach. Rates run from $385 to $550 daily depending on the season.
Experience a step above camping when you stay in this yurt treehouse located on the edge of a deep quarry on the Santa Fe River near High Springs. Rising 24 feet above the woodlands, this treehouse offers only the most basic accommodations, with no running water or electricity. The yurt offers a complete diversion from life, with plenty of opportunities to explore Florida's wildlife and natural wonders such as the Sunshine Spring or Black Pool. A family of 2 adults and up to 4 small children can be accommodated. Pricing: $200 per couple for 2 nights; 2 nights are preferred. $50 per adult per night: you bring water, light, sheets or sleeping bags ($125 minimum: Single night stays, 2 campers). $100 per night for single camper. $30 per child under 12 per night. + $50 refundable deposit
This dude ranch is located on 500 acres in Lake Wales and has 252 beds and a summer camp. Family Weekend programs range from high energy and challenging activities to stress-free. Accommodations are bunkhouse-style cabins with 6 bunk beds with room for up to 12 people. They feature tiled floors, ceiling fans, large open-air screened windows, AC, and bathroom with shower, sink, & toilet. Included with each family weekend package, are 6 meals and a 2-night stay. Rates for Family Weekends are $170 per person, with a 4-person minimum plus 12% tax (children under 3 stay free). 2018 Family Weekend dates are TBA.
5) Jules' Undersea Lodge (currently closed due to Hurricane Irma)
Located in the lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park, Jules' is the world's only underwater hotel! Guest rooms are located 21 feet underwater; you have to scuba dive down to enter the lodge, which has 2 bedrooms and a common room. Each bedroom has a private refrigerator and sink, intercom and telephone. A 42" round window is in each bedroom. A common room contains a mini kitchen, dining and entertainment areas. The staff of the lodge stays on duty around the clock to provide services to guests. A "mer-chef'' scuba-dives down to the lodge to prepare and serve a gourmet dinner for the guests; late-night snacks can even include pizza delivery. Guests of the lodge have included former Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and Jon Fishman of Phish. nd Jon Fishman of Phish. Rates start at $300 per person per nite. The lodge is currently closed for hurricane repairs, but this is a good one to put on your bucket list!
